The brief
A whole house, in one pass
This is a large detached house with a columned portico, brick below and white weatherboarding above — and windows on every side of it. The scale was the job: twenty-five windows, three doors and a bifold, replaced as one programme rather than a room at a time.
The style mattered as much as the number. A house like this wants sash windows with Georgian bars, so that is what went back in.
What we did
Sashes that look right from the drive
Every window is a vertical slider in a white woodgrain finish with Georgian bars, so the front still reads as a Georgian facade. Round the back, three sashes sit side by side over the kitchen sink, and a three-pane bifold with matching bars opens the house to the terrace.
We replaced the fascias, soffits and guttering on the same job. The gutters are an ogee profile — the moulded shape that suits a traditional house — so the roofline matches the frames beneath it.
