The brief
Three jobs that are usually three firms
Windows, a driveway and a garden are normally three quotes from three companies, done in whatever order they happen to turn up. Here they were one project: new windows and doors, a new drive across the front, and the back garden rebuilt around a patio.
It is a period brick house with white-painted gables, so the windows had to look the part — and the work outside had to look as though it belonged to the same house.
What we did
From the kerb to the back fence
At the front, the new drive is gravel held in by a granite sett edge. The new windows include white sliding sashes that tilt inwards for cleaning — the right style for a house of this age.
At the back, a sandstone patio runs along the house to a timber-framed pergola with a hipped slate roof and a boarded ceiling. It is big enough for a dining table, and solid enough to hang a chandelier from.
